From NYC to Iraq.... and back to NYC! It's a thrill to see the photo we took here on Christmas Day now front and center on your webpage! I'm the one wearing the red feather boa, having a bit of holiday fun with my new buddies from the 732nd/Convoy Troops. Giving these troops the t-shirts and other goodies you sent was one of the great memories I'll take with me after this deployment. We are certainly all comrades... It's about two Port Authority workers who were trapped in the WTC and how they were rescued. This is not going to focus on the political views. I am sadden that I just read of the passing of FF Michael Sofia (E165) on Department Order No. 82. "Mikey" was a FF with 9 Engine in Manhattan when I was growing up as a teenager on the Lower East Side and became a good friend. I used to hang out at the firehouse before joining the U.S. Navy back in 1981 and Mikey along with the members of 9 Engine and 6 Truck allowed me to get involved in alot of the company activities (i.e. Company Softball Team, Promotion and Retirement Parties, MUD's, Ride-Along's, etc.). I just want to pass on my condolences to his family and the members of E165/L85, E9/L6 and the entire 4th Battalion community who worked and knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Hey great site! My father Roland was part of the Engine 17 crew, and I'm sure he knows some of the names and faces on this web page. I can remember as a kid, him taking me on a many 24 hour tours with him. He'd put a helmet on me and "hide" me inside either Eng-17 or Ladder-18 on the way to "do what they do". At that age, I can certainly remember the excitement on the way to put a fire out. The flashing lights, the loud sirens, the adrenaline. Not until I got older and more mature, did I realize how much courage and bravery each one of them had to have to be part of the special breed that they are. The "comradery" and closeness that these guys have for each other is unmatched in any arena in the world. Whether it was riding in the trucks, playing pool with the guys, sitting down at chowtime, or just making me think I was helping out by cleaning up or something, these are some of my fondest memories ever. Once, he even got me a seat on the bench alongside the players at one of the hockey games vs. the NYPD at the old Long Island Arena. Now back then, that was great "old time", black eyes, full of stitches hockey. And how could I ever forget borrowing his helmet and fire-coat to dress up in on Halloween. Just the helmet and coat was heavy enough for me, I couldn't imagine also the weight of a tank on your back and maybe even putting someone over your shoulders! Yes, they're in awsome shape to-from what I hear :-)! To say the very least, I'm very proud of my Dad, and of all the NYFD, for protecting us day-in and day-out. As many people have wrote before me, these guys are the "REAL" heroes in our world, not our sport stars or hollywood wann-a-be's. From the bottom of my heart, I just want to say-"Thank You". Please, keep up the good work and may God Bless & Protect You All, Always! THE FDNY RULES!!!!

Hello Brothers/Sisters, I found your website by mistake and am I ever glad I did. My Dad is in two photos in the Fred Koller section. He is Eddie Ennis, third row down, first photo to the left, and third row, fourth photo across. He is kneeling down and has jet black hair and is along side Capt. Charlie Lockwood. My Dad drove the 4th Bn. for many years, 1937-57 were his years on Broome St. I also spent time down there as I was appointed to Eng.9 in May of 1965 and retired from Lad. 135 in 1985. I drove the Fourth from 1969 to 1971 after coming over from Lad. 6. BC Frank Woods was my boss and I followed him to Bn. 54 in St. Albans and then to Div. 4 in Harlem. I also appear in the archives of the Dragonfighters at one of our company parties along with Bob Pace and the rest of the 9/6 crew. Gentleman, hope the new year is treating you well. I haven't been to the site lately and thought I would drop in, given a very emotional anniversary. I noticed the new pictures from Thomas Wylie's funeral on the site - they brought back some pretty amazing feelings of what it felt like to be standing in the cold that day. As his first cousin, and brother fire fighter, I am overwhelmed with pride that Ladder 18 honered him again by adding the pictures to the web page, and holding strong to the philosophy of never leaving a man behind, dead or alive.
